French Hospital Group Disconnects Internet After Cybercriminals Steal Data

The GHT Coeur Grand Est. Hospitals and Health Care group has discovered they suffered a cyberattack that resulted in the theft of sensitive patient and administrative data. This has caused them to disconnect all incoming and outgoing Internet connections.

GHT is a hospital network located in Northeast France consisting of nine locations, approximately 3,370 beds, and 6,000 employees.
The cyberattack took place on April 19th. It affected the CHs of Vitry-le-François and Saint-Dizier, causing the GHT to disconnect Internet connections to the hospitals to prevent further data theft.

Also, the hospital network says that the hackers managed to copy administrative computer data stored in the establishment’s systems and warn that other cybercriminals may publish and use the data.

The software used in the hospitals has not been affected by this incident, so all IT systems remain operational, and patient care continues as usual. However, online services remain impacted.

Due to the data breach, the risk of social engineering attacks and scams against hospital employees or patients has increased drastically.
In order to mitigate this risk, GHT urges everyone to stay vigilant against emails, phone calls, SMS and report any suspicious requests to law enforcement authorities.
